Big Momma little daddy

Who would ever guess a little bird could be such a touching experience. I found this bird covered in mites and close to death in the hot Florida sun in my backyard. At first I couldn't tell what it was and I certainly didn't want to touch it. I poked it lightly with a stick and it moved so I knew at least it was still alive. I figured it would die but I couldn't just leave it there to cook in the the Florida sun so I scooped it up from the grass using a towel. I used an eye dropper to give him water and slowly started to feed him/her meal worms. I was able to rid him of the mites he was covered in. Slowly after a few days the little guy started coming around. I put him in a cat carrier and brought him with me where ever I went (he even attended a funeral) so I could feed him every few hours. After two weeks he became strong. I did not handle him like a pet to try and keep him wild for release. I let him out of his cage so he could leave as soon as he had strength because I knew the martins were leaving Florida soon on migration. Eventually he started hopping on my shoulder and flying to the ground. All of a sudden up he went flying in the sky. He circled the house and I was shocked. I just didn't expect him to take off since he hadn't shown any evidence that he could fly. He flew around the house and flew right back to my shoulder. It seemed pretty surreal. I thought well maybe he is not ready. The next morning he hopped on my shoulder....looked me right in the eyes as if to say Thank you and off he flew.....this time he kept going.
